Two people, including a one-year-old girl, died after a pickup truck overturned near Nepara village in the Kavango West region on Monday.
The crash occurred at about 18h00.
According to regional police chief inspector Raimberth Muronga, the white pickup was travelling from Nkurenkuru towards Ncauncau village when the driver allegedly attempted to overtake another vehicle.
He reportedly lost control of the vehicle, which then overturned.
“The accident claimed the life of Mpepo Hausiku (24) from Nkurenkuru, who died at the scene. A one-year-old girl, identified as Mpepo Maria, died shortly after arriving at the hospital,” Muronga says.
Several other passengers sustained injuries ranging from minor to serious.
The police say the next of kin of the deceased have been informed, and the bodies were transported to the Nkurenkuru Police Mortuary.
A case of culpable homicide and reckless and negligent driving has been opened.
Police investigations are continuing.
