Two die in road accidents in Kavango West

Two pedestrians have died in separate road accidents in the Kavango West region, prompting the police to urge drivers to observe traffic signs and remind all road users to exercise caution on public roads.

The first incident occurred on Monday evening at around 20h00 on the B10 road at Rupara village, when a minibus struck a pedestrian who was reportedly lying on the road.

Chief inspector Raimbert Muronga on Tuesday said the vehicle was heading to Oshakati from Rundu at the time of the incident.

The deceased, identified as Julius Nzaro, an adult male from Rupara village, died instantly and his body was taken to the Nkurenkuru police mortuary for autopsy.

The 25-year-old Namibian male driver was charged with culpable homicide and reckless or negligent driving.

Muronga said the second incident happened at Karangana village on Tuesday when a seven-seater hit a pedestrian at approximately 11h10.

It is alleged that the driver, who was the only occupant in the vehicle, was on his way back home to Mukekete village from Nkurenkuru at the time of the incident.

The deceased, Alex Mangundu (8) from Karangana village, died on impact and his body was taken to the Nkurenkuru mortuary.

The 27-year-old male driver faces similar charges of culpable homicide and reckless or negligent driving.

Both families have been notified, and police investigations are ongoing. – Nampa
