Two suspects arrested in connection with the murder of Antonio Xamseb (16) appeared in the Karibib Magistrate’s Court on Friday.
The accused, identified as Kuje Tjimuine (31) and Nekwa Hangula (22), both Namibian nationals from Okahandja, were apprehended by the police at Okahandja on 30 July.
According to Erongo police spokesperson senior inspector Judith Shomongula, the arrests are the result of an intensive two-month investigation into Xamseb’s death. His body was discovered on 31 May, at Karibib.
Shomongula says a security guard found Xamseb’s body around 06h00 while en route to work. The body was lying along a footpath between the Usab residential area and town.
The teenager, a Grade 10 pupil at Karibib Junior Secondary School, had sustained two stab wounds to his back. His cellphone was missing when his body was found.
During Friday’s court proceedings both suspects were denied bail, and the case was postponed to 11 September to allow for further police investigations.
Xamseb’s missing cellphone, a Samsung Galaxy A04E valued at N$3 200.99, has reportedly been recovered.
The motive behind the killing is unknown and police investigations are ongoing.
