The police in the Kavango West region recorded two deaths over the weekend after a man (29) allegedly took his life, while a four-year-old girl was allegedly killed by a neighbour.
In the first incident, Muhongi Katjaka allegedly took his life at around 21h40 on Sunday at Nzinze village.
Regional police spokesperson chief inspector Raimbert Muronga confirmed both incidents on Monday.
He said Katjaka‘s body was found in his room.
Muronga further said that before his death, the deceased had filed a criminal complaint at Kahenge Police Station for defamation of character against known individuals.
No suicide note was left behind, and the motive remains unknown at this time.
Katjaka’s body was transported to the Nkurenkuru Police Mortuary for an autopsy.
In the second incident, Martha Hamunyela (4) died after allegedly being struck on the head with a spade at around 18h00 on Sunday at Kahoro village in the Mpungu constituency.
Muronga said the child was playing at the suspect’s residence with other children.
The suspect reportedly chased the children away from his property and allegedly struck the girl with the spade, killing her instantly.
Muronga noted that the suspect fled the scene and remains at large, with the police in active pursuit.
The minor’s next of kin have been informed of her death, and her body was transported to the Nkurenkuru Police Mortuary for a post-mortem examination.
Police investigations in both matters continue.
