TRUSTCO Group International has announced a deal with CNBC Africa, the continent’s only 24-hour business news channel, to host two half-hour shows a week from its newly constructed Windhoek studio.
The shows will be used to highlight Trustco’s, and other Namibian companies’, services. ‘CNBC Africa is a world business channel, and the footage will be viewed by more than 90 countries, which is a benefit for the country and business community in general,’ said Neville Basson, Managing Director of Trustco’s Media Department. Basson said the company has already talked to some local companies and the response has been positive. ‘There are fees involved between Trustco and the corporates, but the amounts will only be known after the negotiations between the two parties are completed,’ he added. The company is currently building a studio and setting up a satellite link for the live broadcasts. Trustco’s aim with the project is to increase Namibia’s exposure in the build-up to the 2010 Soccer World Cup in South Africa. Basson said Namibia ‘must take this opportunity to position ourselves during this time and show the world what products and services we can offer’, adding that countries such as Angola have already put their corporate advertisements on Multichoice’s DStv channels.’We are just two hours away from South Africa, so we have to market our products, services and our country seriously to those who would like to come to the region for the football games,’ he said. The announcement was made during the shooting of a commercial for the new project at the Nabygelegen wine estate near Stellenbosch. The seven-minute commercial will start airing on CNBC Africa soon.CNBC Africa is part of the global CNBC broadcasting network and is owned by its American parent company, CNBC News, and African Business News Limited.
