Trustco doubles sizzles

WANDERERS Squash Club hosted the Trustco doubles squash tournament recently.

Trustco sponsored the event, which showcased some superb squash that was highly entertaining. The tournament was divided into three divisions: women’s, men’s and mixed doubles. The two-on-two format is a much less physical game as the presence of four players on the court restricts movement. The women’s section consisting of eight teams was a round-robin tournament with teams playing each other for points and the pair finishing with the most points winning.Adri Lambert and Natasha Estherhuizen, who had 8 points, won the division, followed by Stienie Van Rooyen and Nancy Fernandez on 4 points. The men’s section had two divisions with teams playing a round-robin format with the top team in each division qualifying for the final. In group A, veterans Nelson Herunga and John Lingashi finished top of their group to qualify for the final. They faced Michau Basson and Andre De Jager who finished on top in group B.Basson and De Jager made light work of the veterans who were inconsistent and below their usual sharpness.Lack of concentration and a handful of unforced errors saw the veterans outplayed and outclassed 2-1.Tournament organiser Michau Basson described the mixed section as the focal point of the event.”The mixed section is imperative to the development of squash as we must try to encourage men and women to play more squash together,” said Basson. The mixed final was a couples’ affair, with Peter and Jenny Pahl disposing of newly engaged couple Dries Tredoux and Adri Lambert 2-1.The tournament was divided into three divisions: women’s, men’s and mixed doubles. The two-on-two format is a much less physical game as the presence of four players on the court restricts movement. The women’s section consisting of eight teams was a round-robin tournament with teams playing each other for points and the pair finishing with the most points winning.
