A man was allegedly stabbed to death, trying to prevent the stabbing of the suspect’s first victim at Gibeon.
It is alleged that the suspect chased and then stabbed the first victim, who was leaving a home brew shop, in the back.
This was confirmed by police spokesperson Kauna Shikwambi in the weekend crime report.
The victim who succumbed to the injuries was identified as Theo Rooi (43).
“At approximately 21h30, Rooi was allegedly stabbed in the neck during a confrontation involving a 34-year-old suspect who reportedly has a history of mental illness,” Shikwambi says.
According to her, the incident took place near a local homebrew house where the suspect, armed with a knife, was seen wandering the streets.
“It is alleged that the victim came at the scene to assist in stopping the suspect, but the suspect stabbed him on the neck. He collapsed against the wall of the nearby premises, fell to the ground, and died at the scene”, the police spokesperson says.
Rooi’s next of kin have been informed, and the first victim is under medical care at a local clinic.
“The suspect was arrested, but the murder weapon was not recovered,” the spokesperson says.
Police investigations continue.
