Trade fair celebrates resilience, creativity

This year’s edition of the Ongwediva Annual Trade Fair (OATF) promises to be an extraordinary blend of cultural heritage and modern advancements, the organisers say.

The OATF’s 23rd edition is scheduled to take place from 23 to 31 August under the theme ‘Bridging Tradition and Innovation’.

OATF deputy chairperson Evat Kandongo says this year’s event is not just an exhibition, but a celebration of the community’s resilience, creativity and forward-thinking spirit.

He said this at a press conference at Ongwediva on Friday.

“We are thrilled to welcome visitors to this year’s trade fair, where we proudly blend the rich traditions of Ongwediva with cutting-edge innovation,” he said.

Kandongo said no firearms or sharp weapons will be allowed on the premises, and security measures are in place to ensure a safe and enjoyable event for all.

Spokesperson Lonia Nghuulikwa said the OATF continues to expand its global reach.

“In 2022, the fair had 367 exhibitors, with 18 international. In 2023, the fair hosted 455 exhibitors, including 15 international participants.

“This year, 457 exhibitors will showcase their offerings, with 17 international exhibitors, representing Tanzania, Kenya, Ghana, Zimbabwe, Japan, South Africa and Indonesia,” she said.

She said this year’s OATF has enhanced its security systems by introducing closed-circuit television cameras.

“Discussions are under way with telecommunication service providers to introduce a Wi-Fi hotspot.

The OATF’s 23rd edition also boasts an improved exhibition area and tech hub conferences to bring new dimensions, Oxungi night, comedy and poetry night, Miss OATF and freestyle rap battles,” she said.
