Touch and Go not easy for SKW

Touch and Go not easy for SKW

LEAGUE newcomers Sport Klub Windhoek (SKW) and Touch & Go will clash in their first ever MTC Namibia Premiership football match this Sunday and both vow to win it.

The two teams entered the league this season and will go head to head at the SKW Stadium in what is expected to be the battle of the minnows, starting at 13h00. SKW had a morale boost after their historic win over Chief Santos made them storm into the semi-finals of the FNB Cup, while Touch & Go will have to pick themselves up after the defeat by African Stars in the same competition.SKW coach Richard Starke told The Namibian Sport yesterday that he has no doubt that they will pick up the needed three points, but Touch & Go spokesperson Jefta Gaoab says the three points will go to his team.Gaoab said: “We won’t underestimate SKW.They are a good side. But I think we can beat them with ease, provided our players give their best on the day.”Touch & Go surprised all last weekend when they ousted top guns Ramblers 5-6 on penalties in the FNB Cup after holding them to a 0-0 draw.”At the moment, Civics and Pirates are the strongest teams in the league, but we think we can catch up with them and live up to expectations of our supporters by securing the league title,” Starke said.Gaoab was more cautious on the league championship ambitions for his team, saying that they will take it step by step, but was confident that the Otavi-based side will not be the whipping boys this season. The Namibian premiership has been reduced from 16 teams to 12 in a drive by football authorities to turn it into a professional entity. The teams were forced to play two matches each weekend, but this season, teams will in most cases only play one match each per weekend. But before both SKW and Touch & Go take out their swords for each other, they first have to face stiff competition.SKW will line up against Civics on Friday evening at the SKW Stadium, while the Touch & Go coaching staff will field their relatively young side against the mighty Buccaneers, (Orlando Pirates) on Saturday at the Independence Stadium.Starke said he will be over the moon if he could pick up a win against Civics, but will also be happy for a draw.Civics, currently playing football in an uncompromising fashion does not look set to give away points, while Pirates, still licking their wounds from their defeat by Blue Waters in the FNB Cup quarters, should be desperate to redeem themselves.Gaoab said Pirates were more superior than them in many ways, but his side consist of ‘fighters’ and will take the match as it being thrown to them.SKW had a morale boost after their historic win over Chief Santos made them storm into the semi-finals of the FNB Cup, while Touch & Go will have to pick themselves up after the defeat by African Stars in the same competition.SKW coach Richard Starke told The Namibian Sport yesterday that he has no doubt that they will pick up the needed three points, but Touch & Go spokesperson Jefta Gaoab says the three points will go to his team.Gaoab said: “We won’t underestimate SKW.They are a good side. But before both SKW and Touch & Go take out their swords for each other, they first have to face stiff competition.SKW will line up against Civics on Friday evening at the SKW Stadium, while the Touch & Go coaching staff will field their relatively young side against the mighty Buccaneers, (Orlando Pirates) on Saturday at the Independence Stadium.Starke said he will be over the moon if he could pick up a win against Civics, but will also be happy for a draw.Civics, currently playing football in an uncompromising fashion does not look set to give away points, while Pirates, still licking their wounds from their defeat by Blue Waters in the FNB Cup quarters, should be desperate to redeem themselves.Gaoab said Pirates were more superior than them in many ways, but his side consist of ‘fighters’ and will take the match as it being thrown to them.
