Topsy Kim Introduces New Web Series

Namibia Within’ is a brand new web television series started by Namibian-born artist Topsy Kim which focuses on mental health, youth empowerment and entertainment.

The first episode premiered on Friday, 20 September, bringing forth a podium for youths who have experienced abuse, sex tape exposure and defamation of character.

“Youths have insufficient platforms to own up, apologise or clear contentions. They just get overpowered by depression. For this reason, Namibia Within will have an interview to discuss the situation on air. This gives a renewed focus in life and rekindled relationships,” Topsy Kim said.

The victims are given free counselling to address what caused them dejection. The reason for this is that most Namibian youth resort to hiding which creates an extended period for mockery which can lead to depression or worse, suicide.

Concerning the influence that inspired the show, Topsy Kim said it was through a personal experience. “The year 2016 was difficult for me. My friend committed suicide because of a leaked sex tape. Its time to break the silence on subjects affecting mental health. People are quick to share that they have a common cold but when it comes to mental health they aren’t as willing to converse.”

The sad truth is that one in five teens and young adults experiences a mental health condition and a large number of them commit suicide. According to World Health Organisation, suicide occurs throughout the lifespan and is one of the leading causes of death among 15 to 29 year olds. Mental health is one of the most undiagnosed illnesses because people just don’t know how they can speak about it. There is no shame in being aware of our mental well-being.

Other segments in the show include music and stand-up, interviews, and conversations on business, health and lifestyle.

“I’m really excited about the show as it is a platform for young people. I encourage everyone to jump on board. Also check out my latest music video titled ‘Babba’ out right now.”

The official channel for the web series will be released soon, so keep an eye out on YouTube.
