Top musicians give M-Net’s Project Fame thumbs up!

THE continent is abuzz with excitement over M-Net’s new reality TV talent search called Project Fame, and entries from the 11 participating countries are coming in at a steady pace.

But with less than two weeks before entries close, prospective entrants must hurry to get their piece of the action. Up for grabs is the opportunity of a lifetime for the winner and the two runners-up – the chance to win a contract from a top recording label and to pursue a professional music career, aided by some of the best voice coaches, choreographers, stylists and entertainers on the African music scene. The focus is on talent:prospective entrants must be able to sing and perform and either plays a musical instrument or write/compose their own songs/music.Top performing artists have already voiced their support for Project Fame, sponsored by MTN, and are encouraging talented people to grab the opportunity and enter.Danny K, one of the continent’s most successful musicians and contender for four South African Music Awards (Sama) this year, says Project Fame will deliver a true performer:”Project Fame is a show that’s going to encompass a true performer, a holistic performer.Someone who cannot only sing well, but also compose his or her own material, play an instrument.I think that’s what defines it as a reality TV talent show.”Soulful songstress Tamara Dey says audiences can get ready to see fantastic talent:”It’s going to be amazing to actually see what goes into this process. You see the glamour, the final product, you see the artist standing on stage singing. We’re going to see what goes into that moment, what happens before that moment.”Tamara was referring to the 24/7 coverage of Project Fame.Once admitted, the 16 Project Fame contestants will be taught to improve their vocal abilities, performance skills and musical range by a staff of accomplished music professionals. Each contestant’s development will be tested on M-Net in a live weekly gala event as they compete for the opportunity to remain in Project Fame.Meanwhile their successes, frustrations and aspirations will be the focus of a 24-hour DStv television channel screened to audiences in over 40 African countries.Loyiso Bala, former member of TKZee, successful solo-artist and Sama-nominee, says the training element of Project Fame’s performance academy is a big plus for any budding artist.”Any coaching you can get as a musician or a dancer will always come to your advantage later on in your career.Big up to that!” * Talented individuals who would like to become a part of Project Fame must grab an entry form online at www.projectfame.co.za , at Musica Stores in Windhoek, or from MultiChoice offices and agents in Namibia.Entries close on April 25 004.Up for grabs is the opportunity of a lifetime for the winner and the two runners-up – the chance to win a contract from a top recording label and to pursue a professional music career, aided by some of the best voice coaches, choreographers, stylists and entertainers on the African music scene. Each contestant’s development will be tested on M-Net in a live weekly gala event as they compete for the opportunity to remain in Project Fame.Meanwhile their successes, frustrations and aspirations will be the focus of a 24-hour DStv television channel screened to audiences in over 40 African countries.Loyiso Bala, former member of TKZee, successful solo-artist and Sama-nominee, says the training element of Project Fame’s performance academy is a big plus for any budding artist.”Any coaching you can get as a musician or a dancer will always come to your advantage later on in your career.Big up to that!” * Talented individuals who would like to become a part of Project Fame must grab an entry form online at www.projectfame.co.za , at Musica Stores in Windhoek, or from MultiChoice offices and agents in Namibia.Entries close on April 25 004.
