Do you know why relationships die? It’s because we’ve become fixated on a world that promises us opportunities and they blind us so much that we are unable to balance it all with our relationships.
We no longer take time off from our busy schedules to woo our partners, but we’re determined to work and work and get further up the corporate ladder, forgetting that, sometimes, people matter.
And if you’re in school, I would totally understand. Your priority is supposed to be getting those As and passing with flying colours, while you make history in your teacher’s eyes. But for those of you who are getting things together in the employment world in your new eight to five life and all the money flowing into your pocket, at some point, you’re going to wonder what it’s all for if you’re doing it alone.
A career is a wonderful thing, that’s true, but sometimes you have to look at who’s holding your hand while you’re trying to progress in life. And if this person is ignored, they’re going to look at you and wonder if you’re even worth it because you are no longer trying. Sometimes loving someone is not enough. If it’s full of disappointments, what else do you think the result is going to be?
Imagine what it’s like to celebrate your crown birthday in your 20s and look forward to having a party with your loved ones, until you’re told that you have to work overtime for some extra cash and fill in for someone who didn’t do their job. Wouldn’t that make you feel horrible? Having to make that dreaded phone call, ‘I’m sorry, babe, I can’t make it any more’? It hurts!
And picture this: Your partner was probably waiting at home for you with a bed covered with rose petals and dinner in the oven. They’ll have to pack it all up, with sadness in their heart, and deal.
And when you deal with this pain for so long, it’s going to get frustrating and eventually… Goodbye, relationship.
So what is our plan, you ask? What are we supposed to do with our lives now?
If you have to ask me, it’s that we have to learn to try. A happy and long-lasting relationship is all about work. Regardless whether it’s occasionally spoiling your partner or grabbing them away during lunch time and making sure that they spend time with you, I mean, I’ve been preaching this.
The little things count and that’s how relationships are going to stay healthy and happy – which is what we all want at the end of the day, right? You can’t expect to have the best time ever when all you do is ignore your partner and only pay attention to them after five. No, guys. A little effort goes a long way and we should really instill this in our minds.
It’s time to pull up our socks in our relationships and be better people. Treat people the same way you want to be treated, and maybe the world can become a better place.
Honestly, all we want is to be happy. So clear your schedules in this world that is full of ups and downs. Make sure that you take a little time off because the people you constantly surround yourself with are eventually going to be your family. And it’s not just about blood, but love. Right?
If I’m out of my mind and too far gone, let me know.
