Tonight!

It’s Friday in wintery Windhoek and heading out for the sake of art is a tall order but if you’re keen to brave the chill, here’s what’s hot tonight.

Windhoek City Market is a thing of local legend but tonight there’s some extra creative about the kuier. Support the arts by stopping by the Potter’s Association of Namibia’s Fill-A-Bowl fundraiser where the price of a handmade bowl includes a free helping of soup after a pottery demonstration. Bound to be a crisp night boasting its usual assortment of delicious wines, destination food stalls, clothes, jewellery, leather products and more, Windhoek City Market is the place to be bundled up if you’re looking to chill without the Netflix.

Theatre is on screen in tonight’s viewing of ‘God of Carnage’ at the Warehouse Theatre. Directed by Tanya Terblanche and starring Lara-Lyn Ahrens, Ashwyn Mberi, Ndinomholo Ndilula and Senga Brockerhoff, Terblanche’s adaptation of Yamina Reza’s Tony-award-winning production opened to acclaim last June. A play about two couples meeting to discuss an incident involving their two sons, Terblanche once described the play as concerned with “the thin veneer of so-called ‘civilisation’”. Tune into all the drama at the Warehouse Theatre and hang around for a Q&A with the cast and director.

Ain’t no party like a Mashura party. Raising the roof at the Boiler Room every Friday and Saturday, Mashura is Windhoek’s most regular and rowdy live gig. Reimagining pop hits, old favourites and new songs to their particular brand of djembe, keyboard, mbira and more, Mashura is a must if you love live music and making friends with strangers while dancing away the winter blues.

Tickets for Windhoek City Market (16h00 to 21h30) and ‘God of Carnage’ (20h00) are available from today.com.na and at the door. Entrance to Mashura (21h00) at the Boiler Room is free.
