Toetemeyer bids farewell

AFTER four and half years of service as a Member of Parliament, Deputy Minister of Regional and Local Government and Housing Gerhard Toetemeyer, yesterday bade farewell to his colleagues in the National Assembly.

After tabling amendments to the Local Authorities Act to allow for the establishment of a Municipal Police service, Toetemeyer thanked Swapo for appointing him as an… “Thank you for the opportunity to make a small contribution to the governance and administration of our country, not only as a member of this august House, but also previously as a member of the First Delimitation Commission,” said Toetemeyer. Toetemeyer also served as NamibiaŽs first Director of Elections from 1992 to 1998.Toetemeyer has been the head of the Department of Political and Administrative Studies, and was later the Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Management Science at the University of Namibia.Prime Minister Theo-Ben Gurirab described him as a “precious, national commodity and team player, a leader and servant of the people”.Toetemeyer also served as NamibiaŽs first Director of Elections from 1992 to 1998.Toetemeyer has been the head of the Department of Political and Administrative Studies, and was later the Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Management Science at the University of Namibia.Prime Minister Theo-Ben Gurirab described him as a “precious, national commodity and team player, a leader and servant of the people”.
