A one-year-old, identified as Haingura Daniel Kaimbi, allegedly drowned in a swamp at Kapenene village in the Kavango West region on Saturday.
The Namibian police’s chief inspector in the region, Raimbert Muronga, confirmed the incident on Saturday, saying the death occurred at around 10h00.
Muronga said that the deceased was left at home with his 12-year-old brother, while the mother was busy weeding in the field a small distance from the house.
The swamp where the child is believed to have drowned was located near the house, and the child was reportedly playing there before the incident.
The deceased’s remains were transported to Bunya mortuary for an autopsy.
His next of kin have been informed and police investigations continue.
