Tigers conquer squash business league

THE Trustco Business League drew to an end last week with the Netfin Tigers led by captain John Rabie scooping the league title just two points ahead of Roadsigns.

Netfin Tigers had a total of 204 points in the end, while Roadsigns came second on 203.In third place was Trustco on 200 points, with Helvetica ending in fourth place on 198 points.Informanté ended fifth on 179 points, while Windhoek Consulting Engineers (WCE) were stuck at the base of the table with 82 points in the end.There were only six teams this year. The league’s chairperson, Natasja Estherhuizen, thanked the players and sponsors for an exciting league that has had the closest finish in years. The Namibian Squash Association (NSA) vice chairman, Nelson Herunga, encouraged the teams to enter the tournament again next year and maintain regular participation in competitions to improve players and strengthen the league. He furthered thanked Trustco Holdings for investing in squash in Namibia and acknowledged that without such contributions the game of squash would not be possible. Trustco had earlier in the year announced a three-year, N$1 million sponsorship to help the Namibian Squash Association grow the game and become a top sport in the country.Trustco managing director Quinton van Rooyen congratulated the winners on their achievement. The Dream Team of the league – the best players in their positions – were: 1. Michau Basson 2. Bimbo van Der Byl 3. Brian Kahengombe 4. Nelson Herunga 5. Danie van Vuuren 6. Tienie Botha 7. Rupert Prenn 8. Willa Bronner 9. Tertia Wannemacher 10. Riana Swiegelaar. The Most Valuable Male Player Award went to Rupert Prenn and the Most Valuable Female Player was Riana Swiegelaar.
