TIGERS and Civics scored big victories on Sunday to progress to the second round of the MTC NFA Cup.At Mariental on Sunday, Tigers opened the scoring in the third minute through Leonard Stanley and went on to record a runaway 9-1 victory against Shandombala neighbours African Blizzards.

With Stanley, captain Nelson Akwenye and Page Ananias dominating the midfield, Tigers controlled the match from the start and by halftime had streaked into a 6-1 lead. Their second goal came via an Akwenye cross that deflected off Blizzards striker Adile Chapewa into the net.Within ten minutes they were up 3-0, when Ananias found an unmarked Leonard who stabbed the ball into the net and 12 minutes later Leonard completed his hat-trick when his piledriver bounced in off the underside of the crossbar.Tigers added two more goals by Akwenye and George Dlamini, although Blizzards pulled one back after a great strike by Chapewa.Tigers took their foot off the pedal after the break and it wasn’t till the 67th minute that substitute striker Robson Haitamba hit the net after latching on to an Akwenye centre.For Blizzards, Chapewa and Edward Shivute came close, but Tigers were in a different league and finished the match off in style.In the final; two minutes a cracking shot by George Dlamini hit the back of the net, while Stanley scored his fourth, nonchalantly walking the ball into the net.CLASSY CIVICS SCORE SEVEN The Southern Zone First Division champions Black Morocco Chiefs had a packed stadium of home-based fans cheering them on against Civics, but the Premier League champions were just too professional and classy.Donny Isaacs opened the scoring in the third minute, after cutting in from the left wing and Heini Isaacs made it 2-0 in the 11th minute after pouncing on to Danny Chilufya’s rebound.With the Chilufya brothers Danny and William attacking at every opportunity, BMC’s defence was stretched to the limit and it was not long before Civics increased their lead.William turned provider for Danny who added two goals in two minutes to make the score 4-0.BMC hardly troubled Civics’ defence, although goalie Zico Paulus pulled off a fine point-blank save from BMC striker Adolf Kisting early on.BMC tried hard to come back after the break, but any hopes of a comeback were dashed when striker Jeffrey Ochurub was sent off after collecting a second yellow card for foul play.Their agony piled up when defender Angine Hummel deflected the ball into his own net, and although BMC tried hard, Civics’ defence of Franklin April, Donnelly Nel and Vladi Abrahams kept them at bay.William Chilufya finally found the net when he headed Rudi Louw’s freekick in and in the final minute Patrick Jagger scored from the spot after Clem Brinkmann handled in the box.PIRATES WIN THRILLER AGAINST FLYING EAGLES Orlando Pirates won a thrilling match 4-2 against Southern Zone Second Division champions Flying Eagles, but they were pushed all the way.Eagles midfielder Dawid Goeieman sent the home fans into raptures when he opened the scoring in the seventh minute, while their veteran goalie Abel Kaifanua pulled off two great saves against Ettienne Beukes and Tommy Horaeb.But Pirates equalised in the 22nd minute when Beukes beat the defence to tap the ball into the net, and Pirates gradually started to gain the ascendancy.Kaifanua saved well from further efforts by Beukes and Horaeb, and at the other end Helmuth Maletsky pulled off a great save from a Goeieman shot.After the break, Horaeb put Pirates ahead when he ran onto a Beukes pass, and expertly sidestepped Kaifanua to put the ball into an empty net.Horaeb was in fine form and created Pirates’ third goal when he was fouled in the box, with captain Riaan Cloete scoring from the spot.Horaeb scored his second goal, flicking in a Cloete cross, but Eagles refused to give up.In the dying minutes Eagles were awarded a penalty after a foul in the box, but Maletsky saved brilliantly from Abraham Eichab.In the final minute, however, Stanley Smith headed in to the net to give the home fans something to cheer about.- Namibia Sport MTC NFA CupFirst Round Tsumeb Sunday, January 15United Stars 4 Young Chiefs 0 Blue Birds 0 Golden Bees 3 Touch & Go 5 Life Fighters 1 Chief Santos 5 Volcano 0 Mariental Sunday, January 15 Tigers 9 African Blizzards 1 Civics 7 Black Morocco Chiefs 0 Orlando Pirates 4 Flying Eagles 2Their second goal came via an Akwenye cross that deflected off Blizzards striker Adile Chapewa into the net.Within ten minutes they were up 3-0, when Ananias found an unmarked Leonard who stabbed the ball into the net and 12 minutes later Leonard completed his hat-trick when his piledriver bounced in off the underside of the crossbar.Tigers added two more goals by Akwenye and George Dlamini, although Blizzards pulled one back after a great strike by Chapewa.Tigers took their foot off the pedal after the break and it wasn’t till the 67th minute that substitute striker Robson Haitamba hit the net after latching on to an Akwenye centre.For Blizzards, Chapewa and Edward Shivute came close, but Tigers were in a different league and finished the match off in style.In the final;
