Tigers, African Stars in equal battle

OLD foes African Stars and Tigers have everything to fight for when they meet in a mid-table clash that could swing either way, while Ramblers will hope to increase their tally when they meet SKW in premiership matches tonight.

The SKW Stadium will be the venue for the two encounters, which are expected to draw a sizeable crowd, while the players are also hoping to go for points. The league is becoming more interesting, as each team only has nine matches to play before it concludes in mid-May.Tigers and Stars are traditional rivals and their chances of capturing the league title this year remain slim, as both are languishing in mid-table on 18 points from 13 matches each. Both teams recorded single wins from their two matches last weekend, but a win for either of them will be ideal to put them beyond the 20-point mark.Tigers, under the guidance of Jakes Amaning, will be the underdogs in this one as their performance has been lukewarm in recent matches.Tigers lost to Oshakati City (1-2) before they battled to get rid of Golden Bees in a match they won 3-2.But before that, Tigers were the victims at the first hurdle to Orlando Pirates in the MTC NFA Cup, a competition in which they have reached the finals on more than four occasions before.Stars are equally vulnerable, but confidence in doing a proper job on the field will carry them through.Stars have a solid defence which heavily relies on Mali Ngarizemo and Andrew Tjahikika, but they will be tested by the enterprising Letu Shatimuene and purposeful Dokkies Schmidt.Ramblers are currently having a good spell in the league after winning both their matches last weekend.Ramblers clearly go in tonight’s match as favourites, as SKW found the going tough against both Eleven Arrows and Blue Waters last weekend.Ramblers are also on the verge of signing a lucrative sponsorship deal that will officially be announced on Friday, club chairman Harald Hecht said yesterday.
