Thumbs Up Hosting Competition

Thumbs Up, a local motivational youth brand founded by young entrepreneur Andreas Naftal, will be hosting the second edition of its winter jersey package competition this month.

According to Naftal, the first edition was initiated last year after good sales of jerseys during winter. He decided to start the competition to show his customers his appreciation for their support.

Naftal said the competition was the first of its kind in 2018 and the requirements were to simply buy a Thumbs Up jersey, which automatically qualified customers for the draw.

Last year, the first prize was N$500 cash, while second prize could win you two brand T-shirts and the third, two movie tickets.

The first-prize winner last year was University of Science and Technology student Hilma Shikongo.

This year, the competition now constitutes 10 prizes, which are: N$500 for first prize followed by a Pick n Pay shopping voucher, 50% off hardware repair services, two local artists’ CDs, an MTC Super-Aweh voucher, selected Thumbs Up products and a one-hour photo shoot by the Thumbs Up team.

“I am amazed by how the youth is now engaged into supporting local businesses. It is for this reason I always give back where I can. I want to inspire my fellow young upcoming entrepreneurs to stop being job seekers and to train themselves to be job providers,” said Naftal.

He added that the phrase ‘thumbs up’ is a sign of approval, satisfaction or appreciation. He said he founded the brand while in high school, following a policy he created for himself: “If I play around with my school work, it’s thumbs down, but if I work hard, it’s thumbs up”. The policy worked well for him as it acted as motivation towards his academic achievements.
