This Week and Beyond in Namibia

This week we are filled to the brim with activity. There’s a lively mix of theatre, festivals, conversations about books and outdoor adventures. Whether you are a pupil who can head to the theatre or a carnival lover, aspiring writer or hiking enthusiast, the city has no shortage of ways for you to get involved.

Today

There are stagings of ‘Bang Bang: A Theatre Play for Secondary School Learners’ this morning from 09h00 and again at 11h30 in the NTN Auditorium. The Chris Djuma written and Fellemon Ndongo directed piece will have free entry and is approved by The Ministry of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sport, Arts and Culture for Grade 8 English Second Language pupils.

The Windhoeker Karneval (Wika) kicks off today! It will be an epic celebration with live performances featuring the likes of the Räuber Band, the HSO and Peter Wackel.

This Weekend

Tomorrow from 18h30 is the O&L Prunkstizung as part of Wika, an evening filled with tradition, laughter and performances. Entry is N$380. And on Saturday is the NBL Wika Beerfest at Sport Klub Windhoek from 12h00. There’s food, drinks and entertainment after the famous procession through the city. Entry is N$20 from noon. Sunday will round everything off with the FNB KikaWi/Children’s Carnival tailored just for the little ones, aged kindergarten up to 14 years old.

11 April is the Slut Shame Walk ‘Workshop & Connect’ at Oranjemund Youth Club. There’s a march from 10h00 and the workshop from noon. Let go, celebrate and be unapologetically yourself.

This Saturday Nelao Books presents Windhoek Author’s Cafe with author and ghost writer Samuel Mayinoti, publisher and authorpreneur Delia Magg-Thesenvitz and bibliophile Katrina Kriess. Learn how to get your book on the shelves, understand the pros and cons of self-, hybrid and traditional publishing, discover the potential of print-on-demand, learn to think like an authorpreneur and engage with fellow writers, publishers and service providers between 09h00 and 13h00 for N$220.

There’s a reading party in Windhoek on Saturday from 15h00. Bring your own books. RSVP to 0814125391 for venue details.

On Sunday there’s a 12 km hike at the Lottie’s Batman Trail at IJT Trails in Kleine Kuppe from 07h00. Registration is N$50 for members, N$100 for non-members and N$150 for foreigners.

On Sunday, Move Church Namibia is starting a recurring Mark 16 Course, a theological and practical 3-week course where you can learn how to pray in authority for healing and how to pray to help people be free from demonic oppression. The cost is between N$90 and N$180 per person. Class will take place Sundays between 16h00 and 18h00.

Next Week

You have till 17 April to enter Namibia’s Biggest Multi-Event Festival, which will take place from 1 to 31 May. They are looking for musicians, choirs, comedians, poets, performers and volunteers. Email magucinmay77@gmail.com to apply.

Recurring

Drop in on Quiz Night and flex your cerebral cortex at Piccolo Cafe and Lounge every Tuesday from 18h30. Entry is N$30 per person for groups of maximum six.

On Wednesdays you can also grab two ice cold beers from the tap for the price of one at Vinyls Music and Arts Cafe.

The Speakeasy on Liliencron Street is hosting Ladies’ Night every Wednesday with 50% off of all cocktails and meal options available.

Every Thursday Kat Stahl is hosting Swing Dance Classes at Delta Kindergarten between 18h00 and 19h00. Participation is N$150 per person per class. No experience or partner needed.

Every other Thursday is a social activities event ‘Make Friends and Bla Bla Language Exchange’ at Urban Oasis Apartments in Windhoek from 20h00 to 22h00. Come through, mingle and get acquainted free of charge

Fridays you can now join Nice Dance Kizomba dance classes at their Windhoek Academy between 17h30 and 19h00 at the National Theatre of Namibia Rehearsal Room. Lessons are N$100 per person.

The National Theatre of Namibia is hosting the Stage Actors Training Lab 2026 every Saturday in their Rehearsal Room between 09h00 and 13h00. These sessions are for aspiring actors, emerging performers and professional actors seeking to refine their craft. N$50-per-class tickets are only available via Webtickets.
