Thirty five babies were born in state hospitals in the Khomas region on Christmas Day.

Midwife Getrude Gaingos says the Central Hospital in Windhoek recorded 12 births – six boys and six girls.

The first delivery was recorded at 04h41 and the final delivery at 23h32. Meanwhile, at the Katutura State Hospital, 23 babies (nine boys and 14 girls) were delivered, with the first baby born at 01h25 and the last at 18h17.

Some of the new mothers shared their joy at the unique experience of giving birth on Christmas Day. Daniella Ouses, who gave birth to a baby girl, described it as a special gift.

“For me, it’s like a gift because I only have boys, and now I have my first girl. Her birthday will always coincide with Christmas, making it even more special,” she says.

Otja Kavezepa, a first-time mother, expressed her excitement about the significance of the day. “It’s already a special day, and giving birth on Christmas makes it even more meaningful,” she notes.

Another mother, Utii Tjiho, who named her son Presley, reflected on the spiritual connection of the birth.

“As a Christian, it’s an honour that my son shares the same birthday as Jesus. I feel truly blessed,” she says
