WILLIAM Bongani //Garoëb, popularly known as Bonganisoul, dropped ‘Subu tama’ recently, saying life’s not easy, but there is always hope.
“Subu tama” means “it’s not easy” in Khoekhoegowab.
The Afro-soul song is the latest offering from his upcoming EP, titled ’35’, says the artist who grew up in Windhoek’s Damara location.
“The song reminisces on the lives we live and the daily obstacles we face, such as Covid-19, bullying, and abuse, yet we’re still able to make it, because we are given the ability to persevere. Above all, God helps us,” Bonganisoul, who has been in the music industry for the past 13 years, says.
He says ‘Subu tama’ reminds us that we are all fighters.
“Thank God and live this life, because you can do it. You were born for this,” he says.
Ponti Dikuua mixed the beat for the song, which was recorded at Mad Records, while Sam Batola contributed with his guitar, and Dazzle Skrywer with his lyrics.
Bonganisoul says ‘Subu tama’ reminds us to have confidence and endurance, and to hustle to make it in life.
“Be a fighter and love yourself, because everything starts with you owning your life, and not allowing anyone else to derail you.”
The Afro-soul singer released ‘Mother’s prayer’ in 2008, ‘uYesu Uyakorobha’ in 2012, and ‘Ti //Orena’ in 2014.
Four years later he dropped a single, titled ‘!Nosa !Oes’ (‘Silent night’).
Bonganisoul says he comes from a musical family.
Both his grandmothers were gospel singers, his mother was a chorister, and his late aunt Bushpride was a well-known gospel singer.
“Music has been my destiny,” the former member of the Namibia National Children’s Choir says.
Bonganisoul made it to the top five of a singing competition ‘The Search Namibia’ this year.
