Theft charge laid against the Police

THE father of a young man who died in a car crash at Keetmanshoop has laid charges of theft against four Police officers.

Basil Brown, a member of the Keetmanshoop Town Council, alleges that a gold chain, valued at N$4 000, was missing from his son’s personal effects when they were returned by the Police. Diego Brown (20) died in a head-on collision on the town’s Sam Nujoma Drive in the early morning hours of September 28.Brown and the driver of another car had apparently been racing down the street, using both traffic lanes, when his bakkie crashed into an oncoming truck.Regional Police Commander Nicky Nampala told The Namibian that the Police’s Complaints and Discipline Unit would investigate the theft charges.Nampala said that the Police officers at the accident scene and at the charge office had not followed standard procedures in handling the personal effects of the crash victim.Diego Brown (20) died in a head-on collision on the town’s Sam Nujoma Drive in the early morning hours of September 28.Brown and the driver of another car had apparently been racing down the street, using both traffic lanes, when his bakkie crashed into an oncoming truck.Regional Police Commander Nicky Nampala told The Namibian that the Police’s Complaints and Discipline Unit would investigate the theft charges.Nampala said that the Police officers at the accident scene and at the charge office had not followed standard procedures in handling the personal effects of the crash victim.
