Monday night in Windhoek was anything but ordinary as the city’s first-ever Comedy Festival was launched, promising a week of laughter and entertainment like never before.
The festival’s opening day was a Creative’s Masterclass, aimed at “inspiring, educating, and empowering individuals and businesses seeking to elevate their brand presence and creative prowess”.
The line-up of speakers was a tapestry of performance veterans like Slick the Dick, Girley Jazama, Perivi Katjavivi, Inna Goroh, Jean-Claude Tjitemisa, Michael Kayunde and a spokesperson from Namibia Investment Promotion and Development Board.
The festival’s atmosphere was electric, with attendees from diverse backgrounds coming together to celebrate the power of comedy.
One of the festival organisers, comedian Mark Kariahuua says the event is an opportunity for attendees to engage with fellow creatives.
“This is a chance for them to learn from leading industry players from the business world as well as the creative industry,” he says.
With a full week of activities, the Windhoek Comedy Festival shows no signs of slowing down.
On Wednesday, there will be a Creatives’ Pitch Event. If you have a knack for humour and creative ideas, you can share your ideas with the possibility of bagging N$10 000 and an opportunity to turn your concept into a Polana Noodles commercial.
You can also join an exclusive conversation with cartoonist Dudley Viall, known for his thought-provoking illustrations for The Namibian.
This event, moderated by Nina Katangana, promises a unique perspective on humour and satire.
On Thursday and Friday, there will be two nights of unadulterated stand-up comedy at Etcetera at the Old Breweries Complex. Hosted by comedian Kgosi Makaza, these shows feature top-notch comedians like Zita, Lifa, Mark Kariahuua, Oc Ebs, Courage The Comedian, Erich Nepembe, Sibongile, JanG, Hildegard Titus, Axarob and Wilbard, with music by DJ Kunundrum, Silas The Dandy and Yeezir.
The Windhoek Comedy Festival is in full swing, and it’s not too late to join in on the fun. Whether you’re a fan of clever wordplay, cultural satire or just a good laugh, this festival has it all. Stay tuned for more updates as we follow the hilarity throughout the week. Laughter truly knows no boundaries, and the Windhoek Comedy Festival is proving just that!
