That’s just how life works. The truth always comes out. Be it in two weeks, five months or 45 years. It will be revealed. And then it will bite you in the a**. Just like it would’ve all those weeks, years or decades ago.
Someone said the other day ‘you don’t have to remember what you said, as long as you told the truth’. When you are honest, there’s no need to remember what you said, you will always tell the same story.
When you lie, you are forced to remember what you said or you might contradict yourself and be caught out. Eventually you will have to tell more lies to cover up the lies you told before.
It is ongoing, and sadly becomes part of your truth which is living a lie.
‘The truth will set you free’ may be a corny saying to some but it’s absolute wisdom. Not only will being honest land you in the good books of many, you will be perceived as a man of integrity.
Lies will only compound the bad reputation you will inevitably build for yourself along the way. Lies can be so harmful, not only to yourself, but also to everyone around you, especially those closest to you.
The truth is always the right and most rewarding way to go, irrespective of the nature of it. I have learnt that people often run away from the truth, something I’ve done a few times myself in order to avoid the possible hurt, pain and disappointment that come with it.
Sometimes the truth is not always what we want to hear, and as a result we lie to ourselves, causing more harm on our journeys, until we reach that point where nothing matters any more. In your hopelessness you are finally ready to own the truth, however painful it may be.
Gents, if you want to be respected as a man, to earn respect from others, always be honest. Be a man of integrity and remember that that one single ‘white lie’ can unravel all the trust you’ve built up.
And it will lead to a string of lies that will eventually be such a heavy burden, holding you back from fruitful and fulfilling relationships.
Honesty doesn’t always necessarily win over the hearts of others because some people are simply not ready to face it. Not everyone will be in agreement with the choices we make. But it is important for your character to speak your truth quietly but confidently, and with kindness.
Dishonesty will take you nowhere, gents. For some there may be some temporary gain from lies, dishonesty and corruption but the house of cards will eventually come tumbling down. It’s only a matter of time.
Keep that in mind next time you are about to tell a lie to make yourself look better or sugarcoat reality.
Till next time gents, cheers!
