The street-legal head turner

The 330i is a show stopper and the car’s frontal appearance is a mix of aggression and flair.

David Philander of Pupkewitz BMW says he thought the previous model was something for the books, but this one beats all expectations.

“You think BMW pulled up their socks with their latest models, then, when you look again, they pulled them up even higher,” he says.

Getting into the car already reeks of German ingenuity.

It has a keyless entry, and the start/stop push button is close at hand.

To get the car in motion is just a flick of a switch away on the centre console between the two front seats.

The 330i is equipped with a high-resolution screen that provides all the information the driver needs.

Apart from a whole bag of safety features expected from such a premium brand, the car can easily be parked in confined spaces with its ‘park assist’ feature.

With the push of a button, the car parks itself.

Richard Slamet, who is well known in motor-racing circles, says: “The car’s simplicity is its selling point. The new BMW comes easier to operate, and all the necessary information is close at hand.”

A tyre pressure sensor/monitor/deflation detection system comes standard on the car, giving the driver all the needed information when it comes to tyre-related safety.

The car is fitted with a four-cylinder front engine, delivering a hefty 190kW with 400Nm torque.

With such power under the hood, the car is capable of reaching a top speed of 250km/h, and can do a 100m jump from zero to 100 in under six seconds.

And with the car’s different drive settings, ranging from comfort to eco-drive and racing, any road and driving condition is a breeze.

No need to buy a car for racing, comfort or even for economy, the 330i is all that in one package.

With an average fuel consumption of 6,5l/100km and a tank capacity of 59l, the car is capable of covering a distance of just over 900km on a single tank.

It is not only easy on the eye, but also on the environment, as its carbon emissions amount to a mere 149g/km.
