‘The Sleeping Chef’ causes a stir!

A SLEEPING cook yesterday had members of the Fire Brigade rushing with wailing sirens to the Elizabeth Court flats in Windhoek West.

Neighbours called the Fire Brigade around midday after they smelled smoke coming from one of the flats and thought the apartment was on fire. When the firemen arrived, however, they found nothing more than a pot that had been left on the stove for too long, while the flat’s occupant, an 18-year-old woman, was found inside, fast asleep.”She was trying to cook some meat, but it seems that in the meantime she fell asleep.Luckily there was no fire, just smoke,” said the Fire Brigade’s acting Emergency Management Chief, Raymond Kapia. The firefighters concluded their visit by opening some windows and using a fan to blow the smoke from the flat. When the firemen arrived, however, they found nothing more than a pot that had been left on the stove for too long, while the flat’s occupant, an 18-year-old woman, was found inside, fast asleep. “She was trying to cook some meat, but it seems that in the meantime she fell asleep.Luckily there was no fire, just smoke,” said the Fire Brigade’s acting Emergency Management Chief, Raymond Kapia. The firefighters concluded their visit by opening some windows and using a fan to blow the smoke from the flat.
