The return of Ongwediva’s Finest

FOR the past six years, the youthful voices and trendy dance moves of the all-male group, Ongwediva’s Finesthave been conspicuous by their absence.

Last week the group announced their comeback on social media.

The group was founded in 2009, and consists of three members – Damien Jessaya, Josef David and Samuel

Hamukwaya.

The group has a clothing line and is known for hit songs such as ‘Tsotsi Tears’ featuring Eddie, ‘Ondahala’

featuring Chippa and ‘Pwaakena’ featuring Msunday.

Group leader David said the main reason for taking a break was to allow members to concentrate on their

education.

“Education is important. It can contribute to a great future. We went to further our studies, just to gain the

necessary knowledge and a qualification to fall back on.

“The music industry in Namibia is not a guaranteed career just yet. So basically we were seeking for job security.

We, however, are all now back to finish what we started in music,” David said.

The group will release a new song ‘Coast To Coast’, at the end of this month. They are also working on an album

‘Finally Arrived’ that they plan to launch in November.

This is an 18-track offering that focuses on various issues such as domestic violence and the Covid-19

pandemic. Artists such as Abner Mumbala, Chippa Ivan, DJ Namupala-Mtufu and Tangi, will contribute to the

project.

David said his break from music was good because he has matured and spent quality time with his family.

“During this period I got married to my beautiful wife. I have also learned how to put my pride aside. Being part of

a group can sometimes be challenging. It requires patience and tolerance because sometimes we differ on ideas

when working on a song. When this happens we have to be disciplined enough to do the right thing,” he said.

Being part of the group has turned him into a better person, David says, adding that the members actually have a

lot in common.

“We have similar energy. We are all responsible and have respect for one another. I am glad to be part of this

energetic and focused group. We all have grown into responsible family men. We are ready to motivate other men,

so the break was good for us all,” David said.

forget about their worries and just have fun.

“During the lockdown, there is so much sadness. With the song, we aim to put the people in a good mood. It is a

jiving song and I love the beat,” Jessaya said.
