For years, we watched the ‘Real Housewives’ series from so many cities and states in America. Atlanta. Orange County. New York. New Jersey. Beverly Hills. Miami. Potomac. The works. And in 2018, South Africa got their own version.
The original cast lived it up in the first season. There was Christall Kay who quickly caught the bad side of the other women in the group, but grew her solo singing career thanks to the debut of her single at the end of the season.
Everyone’s favourite diva Evodia Mogase and her equally diva-esque daughter Mercy brought a fierceness like no other to the show. The two, whose relationship is stronger than diamonds, shared their friends, happy moments and exclusive party spots with the world. There was no way you were getting into a fight without the other stepping in. But sadly, Evodia, better known as Madame, and her family left the show. The other wealthy ladies, namely Lendy Ter Mors and Naledi Willers, also chose to give the franchise the boot.
Although the news was met with disappointment, the show got more feisty and wealthy women on board. There’s Lebo Gunguluza, a young mom and entrepreneur who shows up and shows out. Although she had to sacrifice much of herself to be active on the series, the new real housewife assures you that she is not to be messed with.
Lethabo Mathatho, who also goes by the name ‘Lejoy’, loves blonde locks. She’s an actress, producer, presenter, motivational speaker and now she’s got ‘reality television star’ to add to her ever-growing bio. The Limpopo-born Mathatho is ready to shine brighter than ever, and if you get into her way… well, then.
A project manager who’s got her head in the game is Mpho Merriweather, who can also be described as a moneymaking machine. With an incredible fortune, thanks to clients such as De Beers, the mother-of-five is set to show the world just how fancy she can get and may just rub a couple of people the wrong way. But what’s a party without her?
Newcomer Mpumi ‘Mrs Mops’ Mophatlane, who comes with the title ‘queen of shade’, is all about sisterhood, connections and well… money! The theatre graduate, who is also married to a multi-millionaire, is a certified shopaholic, so you can expect to see some goodies in her closet, when she’s not boxing or doing a bit of yoga.
Last but not least, there’s South African actress, producer and model Tarina Patel whose stunning mansion has been immortalised on television shows such as ‘Top Billing’. The star, who has appeared on magazine covers such as Elle, FHM and Cosmopolitan, is living big and we get to see it all. But are the other housewives seething with jealousy or does she fit in with the crew?
