Free breast cancer screening this weekend

This is a month that is going to bring good things for us all.
It’s also a great time to be grateful to experience the Namibian sun in all its glory. As summer approaches and the flowers bloom, I’ve curated a little list for you to help you decide where you’ll want to be in the next few weeks.
There are beer festivals, breast cancer screenings, beat showcases and more. Please enjoy.

This Weekend
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and on Friday, the Cancer Association of Namibia will be stationed at Grove Mall between 09h00 and 13h00 offering free screenings. Bring your ID and a gown.
Streets Threads is hosting a fashion show on 17 October at 16h00 in Independence Avenue close to Zoo Park. This event is part of the 25 Years of Twin Cities initiative between Berlin and Windhoek.
This Friday and Saturday, the Namibian-German musical theatre production ‘People of Song – Unpacking An Untold Story’, will celebrate its world premiere at the National Theatre of Namibia in Windhoek. This show will feature several choir singers and live instruments, conducted by Marco Heise and Natasha Kitavi.
On 17 October, catch the ‘Student Voices in Light Music Class’ concert, a College of the Arts event in its concert hall. Doors open from 18h00.
The Unam Choir is hosting ‘Echoes of Hope: Africa Will Be Saved’ this Saturday from 18h30 in the main hall. Entry is N$80.
There’s a 5km ‘Walk For Sight’ by Oculus on Saturday from 07h30. Entry is N$100 and the walk will start at Das Bos/Yellow Stone Trails.
The Cancer Association of Namibia’s ‘Hats and Roses’ event is coming to Swakopmund on Saturday evening at the Tamariskia Town Hall. The theme is ‘Queen of Bubbles’ and it will have a performance by Sasha-Lee Davids. Tickets are N$550 per person.
Also on Saturday evening you can join in on ‘Namibia Loop Sessions’, with rapper Skrypt as the guest curator. It will take place at Vinyls Music and Arts Cafe from 15h00, and there will be a beat showcase at 19h00.

Next Week
It’s the Unam Performing Arts Showcase Week, featuring two shows next Thursday and Friday at the National Theatre of Namibia Backstage. Third- and fourth-year students will take to the stage from 18h00 for N$50.
Mediclinic Windhoek is hosting the ‘Walk For Good’ breast cancer walk on 25 October, starting in Heliodoor Street from 07h00. Early bird entry is N$100, while pensioners and children pay N$70.
Also next Saturday is the ‘In Die Bos Beer Festival’ at Das Bos, Yellowstone Trail. Entry is free from 11h00.

Recurring
The National Theatre of Namibia is hosting the Stage Actors Training Lab 2025 every Tuesday and Thursday in the Rehearsal Room between 14h00 and 17h00. N$50-per-class tickets are only available via Webtickets.
Every week is Tipsy Tuesday at the Rabbit Hole in Windhoek. Catch drink specials and music by DJs like IcearGrooves and MVSA from noon.
Drop in on Quiz Night and flex your cerebral cortex at Piccolo Cafe and Lounge every Tuesday from 18h30. Entry is N$30 per person for groups of maximum six.
On Wednesdays you can also grab two ice cold beers from the tap for the price of one at Vinyls Music and Arts Cafe.
The Speakeasy in Liliencron Street is hosting Ladies’ Night every Wednesday with 50% off of all cocktails and meal options available.

Beyond
Get ready for the third Restoration concert with Nigerian singer, songwriter and worship leader Sinach at the Dr Hage Geingob Stadium on Saturday 22 November. Standard tickets are N$100, Golden Circle is N$300, individual VIP tickets are N$2 000 and VIP booths that can accommodate up to 25 people with meals and drinks are N$50 000 on Webtickets. The rest of the line-up is still to be announced.
