The Needs Of Ohangwena

The Needs Of Ohangwena

ALLOW me a space to raise alarm on the critical state of human survival in Ohangwena.Ohangwena is a region that lies along the border of Angola with eleven (11) constituencies.

It was known as a battlefield during Namibia’s liberation struggle, and is one of the strongholds of the ruling party, but still the development is very slow, particularly in Omulonga, Eenhana and Epembe. These constituencies have been severely affected by lack of water since Independence.I know that I am not the first person to talk about this problem, because I heard some feedback from both Eenhana and Omulonga councillors.Because of pain and suffering, we can’t be made to be quite without pressing for our survival. The Indangungu and Nambutu pipeline is an empty promise as nothing has happened since it was introduced and I don’t know whether it is included in a plan of 2005 /2006.Now my question is when will this project be prioritised? Water is life without which a human being cannot live. The former Government failed for 15 years to minimise this problem in our constituencies and there is a possibility the situation won’t change in the long run.Taxpayer’s money must be spent in the best interest of the citizens in order to satisfy their basic needs, and not on unproductive projects. The Government must treat this issue as a serious one, We travel more than five km to get drinking water from catchment areas every day with our animals but some villagers around Eenhana town feed their animals with sewage water from Haimbili Haufiku Senior Secondary School and the military base. This year those three constituencies face great challenges like poor attendance of schools/dropouts, death of animals and diseases. When will our problem be solved? I therefore call upon the our government to think seriously about poor citizens of this country who need more than simply free speech to eke out a living.Elias Mungonena OhangwenaThese constituencies have been severely affected by lack of water since Independence.I know that I am not the first person to talk about this problem, because I heard some feedback from both Eenhana and Omulonga councillors.Because of pain and suffering, we can’t be made to be quite without pressing for our survival. The Indangungu and Nambutu pipeline is an empty promise as nothing has happened since it was introduced and I don’t know whether it is included in a plan of 2005 /2006.Now my question is when will this project be prioritised?
