The Mulungas and their enchanted fairytale wedding

Dubbed the wedding of the year, the pictures of the beautiful ceremony and reception speak volumes, making everybody who looks at the pictures relive the breathtaking evening again even if they were not there to witness it themselves.

23 November marked not only the day Immanuel and Sonia Mulunga promised to love, respect and cherish each other for eternity, but also a day the most beautiful, breathtaking and heartwarming wedding ceremony to ever be witnessed under the Namibian sun.

Immanuel and Sonia Mulunga first gave birth to what was to become the wedding of the year, when they decided on an Arabic theme for their special day. A fitting theme for Namibia's petroleum commissioner's wedding.

Choosing Sonia's home town, Swakopmund, as the venue was the first step as the dunes were perfect to give life to the terrific theme.

The Rossmund Lodge garden, at N$2 000 for the day, saw the beginning of what would be a day in paradise for each and every one of the over 300 close friends and family who attended the ceremony. Adorned with Phalaenopsis orchids and pink Fate roses, Rossmund created a splendid atmosphere for a garden wedding.

The touch of white balloon vases and crystals completed the look straight out of an enchanted garden of love and eternal happiness.

Wearing a beautiful lace dress, rumoured to be a creation of American designer Vera Wang, the bride made her way down the aisle to meet her knight in a perfectly detailed tailored white suit. She was accompanied by her bridesmaids who gave a brief introduction to what the Arabic night would be like with their Athena-like dresses.

After vows were exchanged and the couple pronounced husband and wife, the guests all moved from Rossmund to get ready for the reception, definitely something they, in their wildest imaginations, could not expect.

Rumours that this wedding cost about N$1 million could not be confirmed.

As the sun kissed the dune tops, illuminating the atmosphere with a golden light which gave definition to the golden memories created earlier that day, guests made their way to somewhere in the desert.

Behind a dune, a white tent emerged. Guests were met by a treasure hunt as they had to go through flags stuck in the sand, with their names and table numbers on, against the biggest dune separating the fairytale from the rest of the world, was a laser beam art of the newly weds' first names.

Snake charmers and fire eaters, as well as green and blue welcoming drinks received the guests at the door. Inside, an amazing set-up made the guests, for a few seconds, forget that they were in the middle of the dessert.

Draped in silver, white and turquoise, the guests were met by more fresh orchards and roses which would invite anyone to close their eyes briefly and take a deep breath of the air filled with love and promise.

A Capella group, VMSIX, who doesn't perform for anything under N$16 000 for a few songs, embellished the atmosphere with their beautiful pure, perfectly pitched vocals, adding to the already goose bump-effect the day had. Blossom added a melodic Afro sound to give a voice to what a lot of the guests could not utter in words themselves.

One can only wish for the best, blessings and eternity of love and happiness for the two newlyweds.
