The Honeymoon Is Over

The Honeymoon Is Over

THE revelation of a suspected case of corruption at the Ministry of Works and Transport came at the right time to test the effectiveness of the Anti-Corruption Commission.

There might be similar cases which are yet to be revealed because in the past many people were given positions through corrupt practices. In my view what will be good for the country about revealing corrupt practices, especially when it comes to recruitment, is that many people will now be forced by the system to further their studies in order to get the positions of their dreams. If not, the alternative would be to relax the requirements of positions to the lowest level. You could imagine what is likely to happen if the Government or a parastatal wants to hire someone who is loyal to Swapo but does not have appropriate qualifications. While we appreciate what everybody has done for the freedom of this country, I also think the honeymoon of favouring former exiles when it comes to Government positions should also be over now.Patriotism to me does not mean financial or material rewards, which seems to be the demand now by those who were in exile to fight for the liberation of Namibia. If nothing happens to Phillip Amunyela, if he in fact did adjust the requirement as advertised, then the integrity of the Anti-Corruption Commission will be at stake. The Commission needs to inform the public about different mechanism at its disposal that the public could use to report suspect cases of corruption. There are different ways of communication these days such as by telephone, e-mail, letter, in person etc.And obviously the Commission needs to create an up-to-date website as another way of reaching interested parties.Hola Damases WindhoekIn my view what will be good for the country about revealing corrupt practices, especially when it comes to recruitment, is that many people will now be forced by the system to further their studies in order to get the positions of their dreams. There are different ways of communication these days such as by telephone, e-mail, letter, in person etc.And obviously the Commission needs to create an up-to-date website as another way of reaching interested parties.Hola Damases Windhoek
