The Hitman focused on Miguel Acosta

The Hitman focused on Miguel Acosta

NAMIBIA’S WBA lightweight World Champion, Paulus ‘The Hitman’ Moses, is a national asset and deserves the nation’s support when he defends his title against WBA interim lightweight champion Miguel Acosta of Venezuela on home soil on May 29, says his promoter and trainer Nestor Tobias.

Tobias told The Namibian Sport yesterday that the hard-hitting Moses was as sharp as an arrow, and was committed to defending his title in front of his home fans come fight night.
‘Hitman’s strongest weapon is his commitment,’ said Tobias.
‘There are many talented boxers in this country but they lack commitment. Hitman is committed and focused that is why he has been able to achieve this success. It’s not easy to get this far.’
Tobias said there was international interest in his boxer’s second title defence. He said Moses’s stock was rising all the time and therefore he anticipated a full house on the night of the fight.
‘I received many e-mails from international journalists asking me for accreditation to the fight. There are many stories on the Internet about Hitman’s fight and this is very good not only for him but for Namibia.
‘There is a lot of focus on the SADC region this year. Angola hosted the African Nations Cup in January and South Africa will host the World Cup, so Namibia must also contribute to the success of the region by supporting our world champion. He is a national asset.’
The fight is scheduled for the OK parking lot opposite the Kalahari Sands Hotel, and tickets will go on sale shortly. A tent that can accommodate 5 000 people will be erected on the spacious parking spot for the fight.
‘The fight has been confirmed that it will be in Namibia. We are just busy with logistics and groundwork from our side. There will be very tight security at the OK parking lot so supporters should not be afraid of anything. What Hitman likes is to make his supporters happy. He is happy that he will be able to do this at home.’
The Hitman is renowned for his speed and swift jab, attributes that have caught many an opponent off guard and propelled him to world champion status since turning professional in 2002. Prior to Moses’s current reign of world champion, the biggest name fighter from his country was former world champion Harry Simon, who boasts a win over a primed Ronald ‘Winky’ Wright. Moses knows with a win over Acosta he can look for bigger opportunities against bigger names.
‘Hitman fights very well. He has a special gift,’ said Tobias.
‘He has progressed very quickly from amateur level when he moved to the professional ranks. Most famous boxers like Muhamad Ali, Floyd Mayweather spent many years in amateur boxing before they became good professional fighters.’
