The Gym As a Public Space Like Any Other

We all dress up based on where we are going, right?

Something formal for church, semi-formal for the club, casual for the mall, and so on.

All these are public spaces where we need to look presentable.

However, the gym is one public space where most people don’t care what they look like.

I have seen folks in old and torn clothes, and wearing dirty shoes with holes.

Items that need to be disposed of is what some people may wear to the gym.

If you can afford a gym subscription, your income is surely okay, so you should be able to afford a decent outfit.

I am not saying you should wear Nike from head to toe – just wear the correct items and look okay.

We should never underestimate the gym, because it is a public space like any other.

I sincerely believe it is the best place to look great in sportswear. Those who attend a gym do so for numerous reasons: Some aim for mental fitness and some for physical fitness, so why not look your best in the body you are working on?

To start, if you are an early bird at the gym, don’t forget to brush your teeth and wash your face.

Please don’t get up, dress and go.

At times you may have unplanned interaction with people. Remember, the gym has all sorts of people from different religions, industries and cultures.

They are our future employers, associates and friends, and we really need to start looking approachable and presentable.

Women from various age groups often make an effort to look great in their sportswear – sometimes unnecessarily causing a lot of distraction.

On the other hand, my fellow men just don’t seem to care. They wear the same clothing each day, with smelly shoes.

Really, folks?!

A gym outfit can only be worn twice before it really starts to smell.

There are a lot of sportswear brands like Nike, Puma, New Balance, Under-Armor, Maxed, Capestorm, Adidas and so forth.

Depending on your budget, you should be able to find something.

One pair of shoes is sufficient, and at least two pairs of pants and two T-shirts.

In my opinion, a cute outfit sets the mode in the gym.

Imagine looking at yourself in the mirror and seeing you are looking great.

You would want to push to the limits and close those rings or “pay rent” as they say on social networks. And if cardio is your thing, you are definitely going to sweat a lot, so clothing made from cotton won’t be good for you.

Something made from polyester is much better, because it has synthetic fibre which is lightweight, durable and dries fast.

All I am saying is wear the correct clothes.

I know many may disagree with me, but I believe it is vital to have the basics in place.

Clean up a bit and just look okay.

It makes it easier for people to approach you. Remember, one outfit for the entire week is a horrible idea.

Respect the gym and those next to you.

And, by the way, soccer shirts are not for training. From a brand perspective, it just means you don’t value your team.

Let’s do better, dear men.
