“Dream big or go home, do big things or do nothing at all “. I don’t even have to go very far to highlight some incredibly inspiring human beings on this planet. They are right here in our midst. Namibian gentlemen who are such great examples on staying determined to achieve that dream.
I mean, there is founder of Amushe Inc., Michael Amushelelo who is also a motivational speaker and philanthropist. I look at people like Michael – a successful entrepreneur/businessman who started from humble beginnings – and I stand in awe at the achievements from having nothing to having the world at his feet, at such a tender age.
People have grown to love him, not only for his achievements and will to make it, but also for the way he treats others, which has proven to be absolutely beneficial to his growth.
“I have many interests, but the most notable one is that of having a positive impact on my community. I always give back the little that I have and I am always willing to share my advice with people that I meet. I am a very humble young man, with big dreams. ”
I also think of Lourens ‘Loux’ Gerbhardt, popularly known as Loux The Vintage Guru – a Namibian designer who never gave up on his dream. Loux is a top Namibian designer who has been featured in top publications like Vogue, Elle, Air Namibia’s Flamingo Magazine and also South Africa’s The Guardian, to mention but a few.
The Loux brand is en route to becoming a strong and appreciated brand in Namibia and the African continent at large.
This Namibian designer was also awarded Best African Male Designer in Ghana not too long ago.
The beautiful thing about Loux is that, although he continues to pursue other interests, he never lost touch of his passion and his ultimate dream of becoming a top and appreciated designer.
“The world will know my clothes. I have to dream big. I know I will achieve it all. If other people can, I can too, ” he told me once when we had a conversation.
I was privileged to be dressed by him twice before.
Once to the Namibian Annual Music Awards and also to the Miss Namibia pageant when I hosted the red carpet. And he made me feel great!
Of course there is no way I can forget one of my greatest inspirations – a dear friend whom I have seen grown and become a star in front of my eyes. Shahid Dickson now serves as an assistant director in the communications and marketing department at a higher education institution.
He inspires me so much to always strive for even better and to always be a better person, not only for myself but for those around me.
This man started from very humble beginnings but refused to be defined by his past, and is clearly focused on grabbing hold of everything available for his benefit on this planet.
He said, “I grew up in a Katutura home and we were six siblings. I was orphaned at the age of 16. I am a man that was moulded by my background and self belief that despite any challenge, I will make a success of my life. I am a strong believer in the law of attraction and that what you sow is what you reap. The universe reacts to one’s frequency and that which you are tuned into, at all times “.
Kwaito stars Gazza and The Dogg are also great examples of great Namibian gents who believe in their dreams. Look where they are today – big names in the music industry on the African continent. Regardless of the sacrifices they had to make and the challenges that crossed their paths, they kept on going because they chose to stay true to who they are.
Gents, these are all Namibians I am talking about. I don’t think any of us have the right to say we can’t make it. It is never easy, but the one who makes it is the one who never gives up.
Till next time, gents! Cheers.
