The Fans Have It

I ATTENDED the Sanlam Namibia NBC Music Awards nominees show on Saturday, November 4, at the Sam Nujoma Stadium in Katutura and would like to make the following comments: Positive points: NBC was very dedicated and we found them already in place on our arrival.

I liked the screens very much, because we were far from the stage and could not see the faces of the artists that well, but you could see them on the screen. Thanks, NBC, I think you deserve a round of applause! D J Romeo, you were a star! It was quite amazing to see how you could carry the artists through their performances and also to keep us entertained between the performances. That was really good. Thanks for that.I think you were the most exhausted of all! Webster, you are the best! You really tried to hide all the scandals, but sorry, you are forgiven because it was not your fault.Murphy’s Law.The other crew men/women were also great! They tried their best for the sound to be good, the lights etc.The Police were also well deployed. For those artists who took time from their very busy schedules to perform, I thank them.Lady May, when I looked at you, I thought of Brenda.Good luck with the launching of your CD, and I hope Namibia will support you! Last, but not least, thanks to the crowd for the support they are giving to our local artists and please remember the plea: Don’t practice piracy, buy an original CD.Negative points: We arrived there at 15h00 and the show only started at 18h00.We listened to DJ Romeo while counting the hours! My expectation of a live show was that we would be allowed on the grass so that we could shake our bodies. But we had to be seated.Webster tried to explain that they thought it might rain which was why we were on the pavilion.Weak excuse, as they probably didn’t want us near the stage. We went there, because we wanted to see the performances of Gal Level, Sonnyboy, The Dogg, Phura and Gazza, but they were nowhere to be found. Are these people too ‘well known’ that they don’t need to perform at these kind of shows? Why was it then called the nominees show? Why was the public was not informed who would perform? Also there were sometimes long gaps between performances. Some artists even arrived late and they then performed in another ’round’ (as the categories were called). Why were the public requested to be there at 15h00? What would our artists do without our support? They should please treat their audience as if their life depends on them.Suzie Gawachab WindhoekThanks, NBC, I think you deserve a round of applause!
