The DTA sounds warning on cattle

GOBABIS- The DTA of Namibia says it is disturbed by the high rate of smuggling of cattle from Botswana into Namibia.

The party’s Secretary General, McHenry Venaani, voiced the concern at the DTA’s regional executive meeting at Gobabis at the end of last week. Venaani noted that the smuggling of cattle through ungazetted points was of great concern as it would kill Namibia’s chances of exporting beef to European Union countries.Stock thieves from both the Otjombinde and Aminuis constituencies allegedly cut the fences of the common border and drove the stolen cattle to Namibia through these unauthorised points.Venaani said if the EU stopped buying beef from Namibia as a result of cattle theft, most of the cattle farmers would be deprived of markets to sell their livestock.Venaani urged the law enforcement agencies as well as veterinary officials from both countries to be vigilant and to patrol the borders at all times to prevent the unauthorised movement of cattle from one country to the other.- NampaVenaani noted that the smuggling of cattle through ungazetted points was of great concern as it would kill Namibia’s chances of exporting beef to European Union countries.Stock thieves from both the Otjombinde and Aminuis constituencies allegedly cut the fences of the common border and drove the stolen cattle to Namibia through these unauthorised points.Venaani said if the EU stopped buying beef from Namibia as a result of cattle theft, most of the cattle farmers would be deprived of markets to sell their livestock.Venaani urged the law enforcement agencies as well as veterinary officials from both countries to be vigilant and to patrol the borders at all times to prevent the unauthorised movement of cattle from one country to the other.- Nampa
