The CC220d, a cut above in its class

The Mercedes C220d offers more than just a car, it is a companion for life due to its features, luxury and style, as expected from the C Class.

Speaking to Mercedes Benz sales executive Brandon Strauss, it is evident that the C Class is indeed a classy vehicle. Apart from the sleek lines and aggressive front grill with the Mercedes logo prominently displayed, the car has a definite presence on the road.

The advanced interior offers more than just another touchscreen cluster. It features clean design and offers all the necessary information, displayed via different applications, on the screen. The sift touch buttons and controls make life a lot more easier when driving a C220d.

The car offers a system called the Mercedes Benz User Experience (MBUX), which by means of voice activation, assists the driver to make calls, find destinations, work out routes, change the temperature, open and close the sunroof and much more.

The mere fact that a potential owner can literally customise his or her Mercedes makes it more unique in a sense that no other Mercedes will look the same.

This is where Strauss says they are able to assist clients.

The C220d Top Revs had for a test vehicle is a testimony to that, since the 19-inch night package style display rims gave the car a distinctive appearance.

Other features that make this C Class stand out are the keyless entry and stop/start button without taking your keys out of your pocket. This comes in handy when your hands are full, and even in terms of safety, minimising distractions when getting in or out of the vehicle.

On the topic of safety, the car comes with active brake assist, meaning if the car spots a potential collision and the driver does not respond, the vehicle sounds an alarm and eventually will take over and brakes to avoid any accidents.

The C220d comes with an anti-theft package and a host of other features, like parking sensors and a 360 degree high resolution camera that assists the driver in avoiding any damage to the car.

Apart from the standard, other safety features like airbags, ABS and more, the car also has active parking assist.

Petrol heads will definitely want to know more about what is under the bonnet, what drives the car and the fuel consumption for such a sizeable car.

To start off, the C220d has a 2,0l 4-cylinder diesel engine delivering 145kW with an additional 17kW EQ Boost (EQB). This system helps with the turbo lag, simply explained, it “overrides” the lagging of the turbo.

With such power, the car is capable of reaching a maximum speed of 245km/h and accelerate from 0-100km/h in 7,3 seconds.

The vehicle’s fuel consumption is surprisingly economical and according to the car’s specifications, will give from 5,9 to 6,9l/100km.

The 9G-Tronic transmission makes any drive, be it in urban or rural areas, a joy, as the car runs through its gears without any effort.

And when opening the door, the car ensures you are reminded that you are driving in luxury and style, as the Mercedes star reflects brightly on the ground.
