CONSIDERED by many as a Goat (Greatest of All Time) on the Namibian rap scene, The Boy Jay (real name Josiah Matengu) has consistently been dropping hard-hitting rap songs for over 15 years.
This year also saw a rise in visual content from The Boy Jay. Although this was not his habit in the past, the rapper says he will surely be doing it more often. The Boy Jay told unWrap.online recently that he is working on a new extended play record (EP).
“I don’t have a release date yet, but I have been going hard [at work] in the studio and trying to [put] an EP together since the first day of May this year. It will come out early next year though,” he said.
Putting his year into perspective, The Boy Jay says his biggest challenges these past two years include not having enough capital to fund his musical escapades.
“I need financial backing; I cannot get promotions or deals that elevate my career to the next level. Besides the money, I also had a challenge with creativity. Sometimes you cannot create music from where you are, sometimes people suffer from mental breakdowns, and doubt if they can make anything from music, etc,” he said.
However, The Boy Jay believes that new rappers are more than capable of rising to the occasion and lead the industry to prosperity.
“The new guys are dope, I’m exploring the game more to find rappers or whoever has talent and want to work with them,” he said.
