The Benefits of Studying Abroad

More and more students are battling to secure study places at local universities and colleges in the SADC Region and it is good to know that there are excellent and very affordable alternative study options available to our school leavers overseas.

These range from affordable routes in Europe to highly ranked Universities in the UK. For those students who possess an EU or British Passport, tuition fees are free in Denmark.

Students can choose to study in cold climates such as in the UK where they can also work part time and earn enough to supplement their expenses and pay for travel to tour around Europe and beyond. They could also decide to study in warm sunny climates such as the idyllic Mediterranean islands and Mauritius which offers more affordable study routes.

Life skills learnt whilst studying abroad are invaluable and are an added extra which comes for free and equips students with global confidence.

Medical schools exist in seven global destinations and they accept students with good matric grades. Depending upon the type of university chosen, intakes dates are in February, May and September each year. Programmes choices are vast and include every conceivable course. Students are able to choose from a variety of new and exciting programmes such as Robotics, Facility Management, Computer Gaming, Oil and Gas Research, Environmental Studies and Actuarial Science, just to name a few.

Studying at colleges is another attractive option to consider and is affordable. This route offers vocational learning and can incorporate paid internships. Popular courses taken at a college level are Hospitality Management, Dental Technology, IT, Business Management and Engineering. A degree can also be awarded via the college route.

In general, the entry criteria is realistic and achievable abroad and for those students whose grades are not that high and who are aiming to study at top ranked universities and medical schools, a foundation course can be considered. This is generally a six or eight month course which will prepare the student for university life and help them gain entrance into highly esteemed universities.

Student loans can be applied for once an offer is received and are dependent upon the financing bank’s credit criteria. These loans will pay for tuition fees, living expenses and return airfares. Limited scholarships are also available and are granted on a merit basis after an offer has been awarded.
