JOHANNESBURG – South African white extremist Eugene Terre’Blanche has been arrested for violating his parole conditions three months after his release from prison, the correctional services said yesterday.
Terre’Blanche, leader of the Afrikaner Resistance Movement that spearheaded opposition to South Africa’s transition from apartheid to black majority rule, was detained Sunday evening after delivering a “motivational talk” at a church in Bethlehem, 300 kilometres south-west of Johannesburg. “Mr Terre’Blanche violated his parole conditions by leaving the Potchefstroom-Ventersdorp magisterial district without permission.He was consequently arrested in Bethlehem and will be held for a period of 48 hours for investigation of this matter,” Correctional Services spokesman Graham Abrahams told SABC radio.Lawyer Gerrie Basson told AFP that he planned to challenge the arrest in court.- Nampa-AFP”Mr Terre’Blanche violated his parole conditions by leaving the Potchefstroom-Ventersdorp magisterial district without permission.He was consequently arrested in Bethlehem and will be held for a period of 48 hours for investigation of this matter,” Correctional Services spokesman Graham Abrahams told SABC radio.Lawyer Gerrie Basson told AFP that he planned to challenge the arrest in court.- Nampa-AFP
