TEN deaths were recorded over the weekend, the police said in their weekend crime report on Sunday.
The youngest death was that of a 10-year-old boy who hanged himself on Friday morning at Opuwo.
The boy was found hanging from a tree at the Orutjandja location at that town.
“It is alleged that the deceased was sent to fetch water by his stepmother, which he refused and later left the house. He was then found hanging from a tree,” the police said.
In a separate incident, a 29-year-old South African national was found hanging from a wooden plank on the balcony of the flat where she stayed.
The incident happened on 9 January , but was only reported to the police on 15 January when the body was brought in for a post-mortem .
The deceased did not leave a suicide note and no foul play is suspected at this stage, said the police.
A 49-year-old man at Outapi allegedly hanged himself with an electric cable from the roof of his room on Friday afternoon. He did not leave a suicide note.
In a different incident, a 32-year-old man on Thursday night allegedly left the house where he lived and was allegedly only found the next morning lying on the road. He reportedly died while the family was arranging transport to take him to the hospital.
“The deceased was allegedly sick for a very long time and was hospitalised but was discharged from hospital on 12 January,” the police added.
A 29-year-old woman identified as Lynn Mary Tsuos died on Saturday at the Trans-Kalahari border post after she and her partner were swept away by a flooded river. Her 50-year-old partner survived.
Meanwhile, a 26-year-old woman allegedly murdered her 30-year-old boyfriend by stabbing him with an Okapi knife.
It is alleged that the couple was drinking at home at the Tutaleni location at Walvis Bay and a fight between the two ensued.
During the argument, the suspect allegedly took an Okapi knife and stabbed the man identified as Adolf Naibab once on the left thigh and he collapsed and died on the scene.
The suspect was arrested.
In Windhoek, at Wanaheda, a man identified as Lamek Phillip Nehale (23) was allegedly stabbed in the chest with a knife. The reason and motive are unknown.
It is alleged that the suspect and another unknown person were arguing over a cellphone and the deceased was not involved in this argument, nor their conversation.
According to the police, the suspect, who is known, fled the scene.
“Efforts in tracing the suspect are in the process,” the added.
An 18-year-old woman identified as Hilaria Naita Kandadi was hit by a car and died on the scene at Epuku village on the Onhuno-Oshakati Road, Ohangwena region.
In a separate incident, a police officer, Neville Bonny Lebereki (31), lost control of his vehicle and it overturned. Lebereki, who was allegedly driving over the speed limit, died while a 26-year-old woman who was a passenger in the vehicle sustained serious injuries.
The incident happened on Friday on the Klein Manasse-Aroab, C16 gravel road, Aroab district.
Another woman at Okongo town was hit by a car on Saturday. The woman was taken to Okongo state hospital, but was later transferred to Oshakati Intermediate State Hospital. She, however, succumbed to her injuries.
The driver, who may be charged with culpable homicide, failure to render assistance to an injured person, drunken driving, reckless and/or negligent driving, was arrested.
