Temporary production of driving licences

WINDHOEK – The Roads Authority (RA) says the production of driving licenses has resumed on a temporary basis, despite the materials problem experienced by the contractor that has not yet been solved.

Orders for tens of thousands of these multiple colour credit card with two-dimensional bar codes and a hologramic coat of arms had been accumulating, especially from the final phase of the driving license conversion period. It will take more time to finalise these backlogs, the RA noted in a media release issued on Thursday.Licenses ordered until 31 August 2005 are in production and should be delivered at Registering Authorities during December 2005 and early January 2006.Orders for driving license cards from September onwards will have to wait a little longer as the contractor must still solve outstanding problems to the satisfaction of the RA.’The RA wishes to remind all driving license holders that the temporary driving licenses (printed in A4 sized security paper) are valid for six months from the date of issue,” it noted. The RA appreciated the understanding shown by driving license holders regarding the delay in production and delivery of driving license cards and appealed for some more understanding, until all problems are solved by the contractor and driving license cards can again be available within only a few weeks, as in the past. With the new license, citizens of SADC member countries will be able to drive in all 14 states, as it complies with international standards on international driving licenses.- NampaIt will take more time to finalise these backlogs, the RA noted in a media release issued on Thursday.Licenses ordered until 31 August 2005 are in production and should be delivered at Registering Authorities during December 2005 and early January 2006.Orders for driving license cards from September onwards will have to wait a little longer as the contractor must still solve outstanding problems to the satisfaction of the RA.’The RA wishes to remind all driving license holders that the temporary driving licenses (printed in A4 sized security paper) are valid for six months from the date of issue,” it noted. The RA appreciated the understanding shown by driving license holders regarding the delay in production and delivery of driving license cards and appealed for some more understanding, until all problems are solved by the contractor and driving license cards can again be available within only a few weeks, as in the past. With the new license, citizens of SADC member countries will be able to drive in all 14 states, as it complies with international standards on international driving licenses.- Nampa
