Teenager among suspects in Bank Windhoek theft case

A teenage girl is among two suspects arrested in connection with a Bank Windhoek theft case involving a potential loss of N$2 million.

Fenni Megameno Ankoshi (19) was arrested along with Untag Kamati (34) in connection with the case on Monday.

Ankoshi and Kamati appeared in the Opuwo Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.

Their case was postponed to 11 April, and both accused are being held in custody.

The police initially reported on Sunday that an attempt to steal N$200 million from the bank was made on Saturday, but Bank Windhoek managing director Baronice Hans later said the potential loss was less than N$2 million.

“The potential loss is less than N$2 million thanks to vigilant staff action and robust systems and controls within Bank Windhoek,” she said.

The main suspect in the case, Bank Windhoek administrative clerk Nico Rebebe (30), is still at large.

With a police investigation and search for Rebebe continuing, Bank Windhoek is offering a N$20 000 award to any member of the public with information that leads to Rebebe’s apprehension.
