IN what Police say appears to have been an accident, nine-year-old Jennever Garoes was shot in the face by her brother with a hunting rifle on Monday.
The incident happened at farm Swarthoek in the Karasburg district. Karas Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner Josephat Abel said the girl who was in a critical, but stable, condition was airlifted to Windhoek by paramedics. According to Abel, the father of the children had given the teen the hunting rifle to hold while they were driving to the farm. While the father went into the farmhouse, the brother and sister remained in the car with the boy still holding the rifle. According to Deputy Commissioner Abel, when the man returned to the car he found that his daughter had a bullet wound to the face.A case of attempted murder and negligent handling of a firearm has been opened against the father.
