Teachers, inspectors told to be serious with education

LATE-COMING and laziness by teachers and school inspectors will not be tolerated in the Ministry of Education, Minister Abraham Iyambo said when he handed over three new classrooms at the Control Primary School at Ongwediva on Monday morning.

He said he does not want to see a situation where teachers have not seen their inspector for three months or do not even know his or her name. The new classrooms were built at a cost of N$558 651 by a local construction company. It was a joyful day for the pupils, who had been attending classes in tents and complained of heat and dust.Iyambo said despite delays caused by rain, the ministry had met its target of building new classrooms in time for the 2011 academic year.He said by the end of February, 169 new classrooms will be in use in the Oshana, Caprivi, Erongo, Kunene, Khomas, Omaheke, Ohangwena, Otjozondjupa and Omusati regions, and 18 more classrooms by the end of April. Also on Monday, Iyambo inaugurated new at Charles Anderson Combined School, Okatana Combined School and Eenguwantale Combined School, all in the Oshana region. He called on pupils to be disciplined and work hard, as they are the ones to lead Namibia into the future.
