Taxi Drivers Must Learn

SINCE returning from overseas last year, I have been a faithful reader of your newspaper.

As I read your paper many stories and headlines have got me thinking, and some. No story you have printed since the presidential palace debacle has grabbed my interest until the case of the shooting of the taxi driver by the police officer last Wednesday. While I understand how difficult it is to earn a living in this country, a perfect example of this is the blind gentleman who whistles a melody outside Windhoek’s Town Square.I can’t really say I am surprised by this shooting. How many times have these taxi drivers done what they want without fear of retribution or punishment? I know I’ve had to bite my tongue, but they catch you on a bad day, you give them the hoot and they give you the finger.I have wanted to climb out of my car numerous times and give them a piece of my mind. Now Mr Nankandi did what he wanted and once again the public pays the price. It is not right to do what Mr Kamati did, by no means whatsoever, but I sympathise with him.I really do.What’s the chance that our capital’s taxi drivers learn from this?Namboy WindhoekNo story you have printed since the presidential palace debacle has grabbed my interest until the case of the shooting of the taxi driver by the police officer last Wednesday. While I understand how difficult it is to earn a living in this country, a perfect example of this is the blind gentleman who whistles a melody outside Windhoek’s Town Square.I can’t really say I am surprised by this shooting. How many times have these taxi drivers done what they want without fear of retribution or punishment?
