Taxi driver gunned down

A WINDHOEK taxi driver was shot dead by a customer on the road to Daan Viljoen shortly before 18h00 yesterday.

The shooting took place at the Otjimuise intersection, and resulted in the taxi crashing into a VW Combi. Eyewitnesses said Isakar Hango had been travelling from Otjimuise. He had been carrying one passenger, who was seated directly behind him.The driver of the combi, Peter Andraschko, had been driving from the direction of the Daan Viljoen Park, outside Windhoek, when Hango’s out-of-control car careened into his vehicle.A man jumped out of the back and disappeared into nearby bushes, Andraschko told The Namibian.Hango died on the scene, and was apparently robbed. The Police, who arrived on the scene immediately, sent members into the surrounding area, but by the time of going to press, no suspect had been found.Hango’s brother, Tobias Thomas Hango, who was on the scene quickly, was visibly distraught.”If you shoot the tsotsis , then you’re wrong. But look there now,” he repeated over and over to the large crowd that had gathered at the scene.Eyewitnesses said Isakar Hango had been travelling from Otjimuise. But look there now,” he repeated over and over to the large crowd that had gathered at the scene.
