Swapo’s Herunga stresses party constitution must guide filling vice president position

Swapo’s deputy secretary general, Uahekua Herunga, says the party’s constitution has to be applied when filling the vacant position of vice president.

He was speaking to Desert FM on Monday, saying the political bureau has to meet and make recommendations to the central committee on the matter.

After this the party would be able to communicate on the issue.

“To say the Swapo vice president position has been frozen, I think this is early enough to say that, because after the occurrence of the vacancy, the constitution of the Swapo party has to apply,” he said.

Herunga said there is still no certainty about the position.

He said Swapo cannot make decisions that are not in line with its procedures.

“We cannot do things haphazardly. You know, we had a vacancy in the Office of the President after the departure of our president. We simply had only one vacancy.

“So, there’s no way that the party’s head office is actually creating other issues on the agenda, considering what is going to happen in the future,” Herunga said.
